Six Degrees: West to East

Six Degrees: West to East is a series of new media work by Lori K. Gordon. The series incorporates digital photographic imaging, painting, and collage. Drawing on her background as a visual artist, Gordon transforms photographs taken in the Middle East into visual stories. The exhibit features work that focuses on the cultures of Turkey, Cyprus and Israel.

Ms. Gordon will open Six Degrees with an informative gallery talk on April 5 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. She will discuss the background and inspiration for this exhibit. Joining her will be Dr. Allen Branum, South Dakota State University Professor Emeritus and former director of SDSU’s Diversity Enhancement. Dr. Barnum traveled with Gordon to the Middle East and will share in the discussion.

Ms. Gordon is a Gulf Coast Artist whose groundbreaking “Katrina Collection” was featured on MSNBC, CBS, NPR and in dozens of newspapers across the country. Gordon has exhibited her art around the nation, and pieces of this series may be found in Europe and Asia as well as the United States.

The exhibit runs from April 5, 2012 – May 11, 2012 in the Cook Library Art Gallery next to Starbucks. Gallery hours are M/W/F 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Tuesday/Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
