Science Café - Diamonds

With the advances of materials fabrication techniques, manmade diamonds can now be produced in an unprecedented size and quality. Will these diamonds replace natural diamonds, one of the most loved and precious gemstones? Varieties of diamonds are made by modifying the fabrication parameters, offering new opportunities for future electronics applications.

Join Dr. Song Guo, assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, for the second Science Café of the spring semester on Monday, February 24, 2014, at 6 p.m. in the Cook Library meeting room (LIB 123) located in the southwest corner of the Learning Commons.

A Science Café's casual meeting place, plain language, and inclusive conversation create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for people whose primary background may not be science. Each meeting is organized around an interesting scientific topic, with a presenter (usually a scientist) giving a brief background overview, usually with visuals, before the discussion kicks off.
