National Novel Writing Month

Launched in 1999, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is an annual creative writing event in which participants attempt to write a 50,000-word novel, or the first 50,000 words of a novel, during the month of November. Participants can register, track their progress, and receive inspiration and motivation from other writers at the NaNoWriMo website, http://nanowrimo.org. Volunteers around the world also organize events and get-togethers to encourage participation at the local level.

As part of the Hattiesburg-area NaNoWriMo initiative, Cook Library will be hosting weekly write-ins at 7 p.m. on Mondays throughout the month of November in the Cook Library Art Gallery (LIB 105A). Write-ins provide participants with the opportunity to work on their novels in the company of others taking the NaNoWriMo challenge. Cook Library will also host the Night of Writing Dangerously on Friday, November 20 starting at 5 p.m. (with writing to begin at 6 p.m.) in the Cook Library Art Gallery. This six-hour-long writing event offers participants the chance to up their word counts while receiving encouragement from one another.

Attendees do not need to register at the NaNoWriMo website to participate in any of these events.
