Book Talk – Ocean Springs: a Story Through Pictures
News item published on: 2013-02-06 10:11:04The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Libraries will host a book presentation with Joyce Shaw, coauthor of Images of America – Ocean Springs, on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, 3-5 p.m. in Room 213 of the Gulf Park campus Library in Long Beach.
Shaw is employed at the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) as the head librarian for the Gunter Library, which serves as the archive for the history of GCRL. Shaw’s family ties to the Mississippi Gulf Coast began in the early 1900s with her grandfather Hobart Doane Shaw, who is credited with designing the Harrison County seawall.
Arcadia Publishing says the 128-page book shows how “Ocean Springs has grown over the last century from a small fishing and agricultural village into a lively arts community.”
In addition to the book presentation, Shaw will sign copies of Images of America – Ocean Springs with her coauthor Betty Hancock-Shaw, who works for the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Libraries and advocates historic preservation after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
Books will be available for purchase at the presentation and signing. For more information, contact the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Library at 228.214.3450.
