Science Café on the Coast: Where Birds Thrive, People Prosper

Through actions such as increasing native plantings in backyards and urban green spaces, reducing light pollution, use of bird-strike reduction materials on windows and other reflective surfaces in our built environments, and creating wildlife structures; we can improve the quality of life for humans and wildlife. Join us on Thursday, February 25 at 6 p.m. as Erin Parker discusses building bird-friendly communities. The event will take place at the Gulf Coast Library in Long Beach, and is free and open to the public.

Parker is the Education and Outreach Manager at the Pascagoula River Audubon Center in Moss Point. Prior to moving to the Gulf Coast in June of 2015, she was a high school science teacher in Wisconsin. Parker is currently attempting to understand the logistics of a year-round vegetable gardening season, and when, exactly, one should plant tomatoes

Science Café on the Coast is a collaboration between The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Libraries, Harrison County Library System, Long Beach Public Library, and Hancock County Library System and offers those with minimal background in science the chance to meet and discuss scientific issues in a relaxed social setting.  Admission is free and open to the public.
