Southern Miss' Federal Depository Celebrates 75-Year Anniversary

University of Southern Miss Libraries is celebrating 75 years as part of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). Since 1935, The Joseph Anderson Cook Library has housed federal documents and assisted all constituencies in locating government data in an effort to ensure the American public access to its government's information.

There will be an anniversary celebration open to the public, 5-6 p.m. December 8, 2010, at Cook Library on the Hattiesburg campus in the government document area on the second floor. At this time, an anniversary plaque from the Government Printing Office will be displayed and refreshments will be served. At federal depository libraries, the public can explore publications, journals, electronic resources, microfiche, microfilm and more on hundreds of thousands of topics for FREE from the U.S. Federal Government.

Since 1813, depository libraries have safeguarded the public's right to know by collecting, organizing, maintaining, preserving, and assisting users with information from the federal government.
