Englert Selected as Health Care Ambassador

Tracy Englert, science and technology librarian , has been selected as a Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Ambassador. PCORI is an independent, non-profit research organization authorized by Congress in 2010 to fund comparative effectiveness research that will provide patients, their caregivers, and clinicians with the evidence needed to make better-informed health and healthcare decisions. The goal of the PCORI Ambassador Program is to help patients, organizations, and other stakeholders share PCORI’s vision and mission with their communities, participate as full partners in research, and ensure the sharing and use of information generated from PCORI-funded projects. PCORI Ambassadors play an important role in building a patient-centered research community and have completed training relating to PCORI and meaningful patient and stakeholder engagement in research.

Englert’s involvement with PCORI came about through her involvement with a PCORI funded-research project. She said, “when I signed up for the Health eHeart study, I received a device that used my smartphone to record an ECG (an electronic representation of your heart's electrical activity). I was excited to help make a contribution to science and become involved with innovative medical research using technology. The PCORI Ambassador Program will give me the opportunity to engage with PCORI, become trained in PCOR science, cultivate skills for future participation as patient and stakeholder partners in PCORI research projects; and connect with others interested in this emerging field of research.”

In addition to being accepted into the Ambassador Program, she has also been awarded a travel scholarship that will cover the cost of travel, hotel, meals and incidental expenses to attend the 2016 PCORI Annual Meeting: Changing the Conversation about Health Research, that will be held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD on November 17-19, 2016.
