Gulf Coast Library Hosting Black History 365 Events
News item published on: 2023-01-31 14:08:00On February 28, the Gulf Park Campus will host National Book Award winner, and Mississippi native, Jesmyn Ward. Ward is the first woman and first African American to win two National Book Awards for fiction.
Leading up to this event, the Gulf Coast Library on the Gulf Park Campus is hosting three events focused on reading and discussing Ward’s books.
Get It Thursday, February 9, 12:15 to 1 p.m. GCL Room 303, The Lounge Three different books by Jesmyn Ward will be given away to students during the event. Stop in to pick up a book and enjoy some snacks. Books available while supplies last.
Read It Thursday, February 16, 12:15 to 1 p.m. GCL Room 303, The Lounge Stop by The Lounge to share a reading experience with your peers. Read your copy of Ward’s book in a comfortable and relaxed environment while taking a break from studying and classes. Refreshments will be available.
Discuss It Thursday, February 23, 12:15 to 1 p.m. GCL Room 303, The Lounge This is a casual, open discussion where you to share your thoughts and experiences with Ward’s books. There will be no formal agenda. Refreshments will be available.
Jesmyn Ward Black Excellence Celebration: A Journey to Prosperity Tuesday, February 28, 12:15 to 2 p.m. Fleming Education Center Auditorium, Gulf Park Campus Keynote Speech by Jesmyn Ward, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Books will not be sold at the event. This event is sponsored by the Southern Miss Gulf Park Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.
