Aquila Reaches 200,000th Download

Aquila, the University of Southern Mississippi digital repository containing scholarly works created by faculty, staff and students, recently logged its 200,000th download. With new projects in the works for 2015, the site shows no signs of slowing down.

Aquila reached its 100,000th download in March of 2014, more than two years from the date Aquila came online. In less than nine months, that download total has already doubled. Beginning in January, a monthly newsletter will be published to keep Aquila users and members of the campus community current on the newest uploads and other news pertaining to the site. Faculty, staff and students are invited to subscribe to the newsletter by visiting http://mailman.usm.edu/mailman/listinfo/Aquila.

Recent additions to Aquila include the December 2014 Master’s theses, which may be browsed as a collection, by department or by title or topic. The fall 2014 issue of SLIS Connecting is also now available. This issue features articles on the International Tracing Service, primers in the de Grummond collection and library websites.

The Aquila Digital Community is an open access digital repository containing all of the scholarly works created by Southern Miss faculty, staff, and students. Aquila also hosts digital journals and newsletters published by the University, as well as information and resources from events its hosts. All submissions to Aquila have open access availability and are indexed, making them highly discoverable through internet search engines, such as Google, thereby extending the University’s scholarly output to a wider audience.
