Each month, University Libraries highlights a resource from its collections. This month we are featuring the Manhattan Project: Official History and Documents, located in the microform collection on the second floor in Cook Library. The collection consists of primary source documents and subsequent material relating to the development of the atomic bomb.

The Manhattan Project was a top-secret project that involved the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada during the Second World War. The project was originally conceived for use against Nazi Germany, but with its surrender in May of 1945, the resulting bombs, Fat Man and Little Boy, would end up being used against Japan the following August. This event would result in the end of World War II and precipitated the beginning of the Cold War with the Soviet Union and its allies, the effects of which are still felt in the present day.
