In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the School of Library and Information Science, University Libraries, and Student Health Services will host a screening of the 2011 documentary Pink Ribbons, Inc. at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in Cook Library Room 123.

Pink Ribbons, Inc. is a feature documentary that explores the complex landscape of breast cancer fundraising and documents how some companies use pink ribbon-related marketing to increase sales while contributing hardly any of the proceeds to the cause. The film includes interviews with critics of the pink ribbon campaign, as well as breast cancer researchers, patients and fundraisers. Pink Ribbons, Inc. is based on the 2006 book Pink Ribbons, Inc: Breast Cancer and the Politics of Philanthropy by Samantha King. The film’s run time is approximately 97 minutes. This event is free and open to the public and is made possible by Breast Cancer Action.
