The Southern Miss Gulf Coast Library on the Gulf Park campus presents “Fun-Da-Mental Adventure in Art, Studies from the Last Three Years,” by Gulf Coast artist Milton Williams. The exhibit will be on display on the first and second floors of the Gulf Coast Library through April.

The exhibit includes landscapes, historical sites, imaginative wood grains, islands, fish, crabs and flowers and show the various techniques he uses to get the texture effects that make his work unique.

Williams uses a palette knife for textural effects, which produce various angles on the surface of the work causing reflected light to change by the position of the viewer and time of day making the painting uniquely “fresh” each time one sees it.

Most of Williams’ art has to do with landscapes, and his experimentation in acrylic mediums and techniques, exploring ways to render the subject matter, led to several series that include “Beneath Our Islands”, “Roof Tops”, “Wood Grain Primitives”, and “Bayous and Marshes”.

Williams received a bachelor of arts in commercial art from Mississippi State University in 1975 and worked as a graphic artist at the Naval Construction Training Center for 22 years. He currently serves as an art specialist for the Armed Forces Retirement Home where he teaches art techniques with the veterans.

A reception is scheduled for March 21 from 4-6 p.m. where select artwork will be available for purchase.
