This event has been canceled.

Ryan Starrett and Josh Foreman will present “The Hidden History of New Orleans” on Monday, March 30 at 4 p.m. at the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Library.

Starrett and Foreman will discuss the sordid history of The Crescent City from a serial-killing axeman who threatened to murder anyone not listening to jazz music to missionary nuns aiming to civilize the frontier to the unsung heroine of the Battle of New Orleans. Learn about Nazi U-boats lurking off the coast during World War II and streetcar strikers lining the thoroughfares with IEDs.

Jackson natives, Starrett and Foreman have worked together to explore interesting local histories. The Hidden History series is a collection written by many authors for Arcadia Publishing. Starrett and Foreman’s contributions include Hidden History of Jackson, Hidden History of the Mississippi Sound, and, most recently, Hidden History of New Orleans.

This event is free and open to the public. Copies of Hidden History of New Orleans will be available for purchase.
