Science Cafe - Exercise in a Pill: Marathon Mouse

News item published on: 2012-04-19 10:14:12

The University of Southern Mississippi Libraries Science Café, Exercise in a Pill: Marathon Mouse will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 3-4:30 p.m. in Cook Library Art Gallery (LIB 105A), located next to Starbucks.

With an "exercise pill," researchers turn couch-potato rodents into champion runners. This Science Café will focus on different drugs that can mimic the effects of exercise in remarkable ways. The discussion will be led by Dr. Geoffrey M. Hudson, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science in the School of Human Performance & Recreation.

A Science Cafes casual meeting place, plain language, and inclusive conversation create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for people who may have no science background. Each meeting is organized around an interesting scientific topic where a scientist gives a brief presentation and shows a short video clip to kick off the discussion. The events are free and open to the public. For more information please contact Tracy Englert (601.266.6396).
