Presented by Dr. Jennifer Sutton, veterinarian for Gulf Coast Veterinary Emergency Hospital and Beach View Veterinary Hospital, “Dogs vs. Cats – Their Noses Know” offers an informative discussion about who has a better sense of smell: a dog or a cat.

Attendees will develop an understanding of how dogs and cats use their noses to locate prey; communicate with each other; detect specific scents such as people and explosives; and for their protection. This presentation will also include a demonstration by trained, certified Search and Rescue dogs from the Jackson County K-9 Search, Rescue and Recovery.

Science Café on the Coast is a collaboration between The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Libraries, Harrison County Library System, Long Beach Public Library and Hancock County Library System. This event offers those with minimal background in science the chance to meet and discuss scientific issues in a relaxed social setting.  Admission is free and open to the public.
