Cook Library Renovation Overview

Renovation of the Cook Library building began in June 2019 and is expected to be completed in January 2021. The first and second floors of Cook Library will receive an updated look, with new flooring and paint throughout. The library’s Research Services Unit will have a new home in the northeast corner of the Learning Commons. When the project is complete, Cook Library will become home to several University services relocated from elsewhere on the Hattiesburg campus:

  • Bower Academic Center
  • Math Center
  • New Student & Retention Programs Office
  • Student Advisement Center
  • Student Support Services Office

The renovation work is planned to occur in five sequences. In terms of effected space within the building, the sequences can be thought of as follows:

  • Sequence 1 – roof, infrastructure, and southeast corner of 2nd floor
  • Sequence 2 – east half of 2nd floor
  • Sequence 3 – north half of 1st floor
  • Sequence 4 – south half of 1st floor
  • Sequence 5 – southwest corner of 2nd floor

As work transitions from one sequence to another, existing resources and services may be temporarily relocated from one part of the building to another. This page will provide updates on the progress of renovation work to help keep everyone informed as we work toward providing an improved facility for all.
